a creative, organized and detail-oriented marketing and communications multimedia designer/ developer who has managed, executed, and produced final optimized graphics for a wide range of print and web projects. fabian’s dynamic portfolio includes a variety of multimedia graphic design and web development projects, including e-cards, e-newsletters, Macromedia Flash animations, MS PowerPoint presentations, print media, collateral, promotional advertising, logo and other related design work.
fabian has worked alongside and completed a variety of projects for clients such as the Jays Care Foundation (Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club), Colliers International, Regus Business Centres, The Toronto Zoo, The NHL Alumni, Aon and The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). he has also produced a variety of collateral for non-profit organizations such as Community Living Ontario, Children’s Health Foundation and London Health Sciences Foundation (to name a few).

nothing ‘squirly’ about it

..thats right! with the start of my new project management course at the university of western ontario, i was keen on obtaining a method of “note-taking” on my ipad. being familiar with onenote for microsoft office and knowing that such application was not available in the app store (for ipad, it is currently available for iphone) – my hunt commenced.
quicker than i thought, i was led to an app titled “memonic” and i’ve quickly come to admire this app. it is friggin amazing! working much like onenote, you can categorize notes, clippings, screen captures, etc. the best part… it all gets synchronized to an online service. hold on a second.
whip open my macbook and voila! a mac app! yes! let me get this straight – i just created notes on my ipad, synchronized and now i see all my notes on my mac. you got to be kidding me. let’s log into the “web” version – yup there are my notes. this can’t get any better. i fiddle with the app on both computing devices, start to file , configure my settings, learn the in and outs and so far – excellent.
next day at work – hmmm, lets download it on my windows machine. ok – this really doesn’t get any better! i can now access, write, synchronize all my info in one spot. perfect. researching further i notice that this app is available across all android, desktop, apple platforms. i love you memonic.
i strongly believe this product is going to do quite well! how much you ask? well it’s free to download the app and you are set up with 100 note capability, 3 groups and a 2mb max upload of any attachment. for a mere $28/yr ($15/yr if you’re a student), unlimited notes, unlimited groups and a 20mb max upload of any attachment – peanuts for the squirrel!

take some time

even designers need a break! just like writers block, let’s call it “designers block” and that’s when you know you need to take some time. a vacation, is a great place to start with allowing your creative juices recharge. with the daily challenges of coming up with new concepts, managing clients an timelines, things can easily become overwhelming. we all need a break at times, so even if it’s taking a day off to visit a park or even a museum to get some inspiration, don’t let yourself become stressed with the job you love to do. instead find ways to refuel and help you conquer the next big project. just be sure to keep your clients updated, especially if it’s an extended departure. it’s ok to check in, read emails and keep in tune with what’s going on, but be sure to enjoy the freedom you also deserve and continue to earn for yourself.
know when to do it

be it relationships, addictions or that wonderful client you’ve been strongly attached to, sometimes you need to know when to walk away. thank goodness there are no relationships or adddictions i need to walk away from (by the way, shopping is not an addiction), but there have come times when i’ve needed to stop providing services to certain clients. always prep your clients and recommended a transfer of responsibility. change is good. that’s why large organizations change agency of record. sometimes a different style, look or feel is required. sometimes you as a designer/developer just need to get away. nonetheless, when the time comes, always prepare your client and make the transition as easy as possible. if you feel the efforts you make are unappreciated or simply feel taken advantage of, don’t ever feel that you can’t express your concerns. you should always know your limits and should not be expected to undertake something without being properly compensated for it. time is money. although it’s tough, make sure you get your last paycheck too!
